I did not know that the Middlesex Regiment were part of the Cheshire Regiment!

A somewhat confusing array of insignia!!! the badge is an OR’s collar badge to the Middlesex Regt

I am not suggesting any link between the two part patch illustrated at the start of this thread but it triggered a memory, others may know more. Personally I would not envisage the collar of one regiment and title of another being worn together - other than through the traditions preserved post merger of regiments, as seen today post 'options for change' etc.

I was just pleased to dust off a vague recollection:

In 1936, the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers was one of four line infantry regiments selected for conversion to specialised Divisional (Machine Gun) or Divisional (Support) Battalions. The other regiments selected were the Cheshire Regiment, the Manchester Regiment and the Middlesex Regiment.[43]
