Liverpool UOTC or Kings?
http://www.buywyze.com/shop.php
Middle a/a badge has an unseeded scroll. I personnaly catagorise the unseeded scroll as modern as worn by Liverpool UOTC today and the seeded scroll version as the 1960s TA badge. I stand to be corrected. |

I believe you are right.
I think Colin (Hagwalter) has seedless scrolls appearing in the early to mid 60s. For the LUOTC these seedless ones were sealed in 1971 and again in 1992. I'm also certain that the AA badge only arrived after the disappearance of the King's Liverpool in 1958 (no prices given in the 1959 CCN !) so never worn by the regulars. BUT I haven't yet found the date when the seeded scrolled badges were first worn / issued to the 5th Bn and the LUOTC. |

Alan,
You are right. The sealed pattern for this badge is dated 1971 and at that date LUOTC were the only unit still wearing the badge of the Kings Liverpools. As interesting is the connection to my thread "Multiple Markets", I listed an example of this badge on the Forum recently albeit by Dowler for £7 with no takers. I presume the seller is confident that his badge will fetch £35 http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=36233 P.B. ( I am still trying to work out where all the mint Liverpool Irish anodised badges are coming from )

I would have hoped that the auction house would have vetted the sales. Does the buyer set the asking price or the auction house set a value that they agree to?
Clearly their 'expert' did not buy Chris' book. Another example of an over inflated price with no real 'auction- house assurance' behind it. There are some ridiculous starting prices being asked on ebay by a couple of dealers which make me shudder. I have nearly all British a/a badges, including a few modern gap fillers, but they are not something I value and certainly would not pay £50+ for. |

(given that the Liverpool Irish AA badge was only sealed in July 1964 and that it was manufactured by three (albeit related) companies and became obsolete in March 1967 there must indeed be lots of them about ! A case of poor communications)

The only institution in the UK that has a copy of my book is the Imperial War Museum. This was given to them earlier in the year as a gift for allowing me access to the back room collections over a number of days. Other institutions are the Canadian War Museum and the New Zealand Defence Force in Wellington. The librarian there recently told me that it is on constant issue with a long waiting list to borrow. Although some dealers in the UK have purchased no auction houses have approached me so far to date. re: badge - I my opinion, only the seeded version should be considered as an example of The King’s Regiment (Liverpool) cap badge. KLR very kindly gave me some examples when I was in the UK a few years ago. One, in its original packaging, is shown on page 124. Regards Chris |
