Small Size ROC WW2 Breast Bage
Over the years a there has been debate around the two sizes of ROC Breast Badge which were worn 1941-1952/3. Many people subscribe to the notion that the larger sized badge was for 'male' use and the smaller sized badge was for 'female' use. This is not something I have personally subscribed to for a long time, instead believing that the small sized badge was issued to smaller observers who needed a smaller size badge for their size of uniform and it had nothing to do with Gender.
Recently on eBay an album was sold containing a number of late war ROC images (amongst other things) but significantly it included the attached image which shows an un-named male Observer Officer wearing battledress with the small size badge clearly visible.
