I see so many differences, and only one comparison, they are both depictions of mottoes. Also, when will you take into consideration that for every lancer wearing a legitimate motto there are probably many thousands more rockers/bikers worldwide wearing one?

Rgds, Thomas.

I don't see a difference..... just a slightly different angle, distance of photo taken, lighting conditions and a 1945 resolution level from the print quality.

The 1RD badge pictured is the one below.... the 17/21L is the old Firmin.
No Guards Armoured Division because they are nothing to do with the Royal Armoured Corps? For the same reason they did not need to wear "chromed" cap badges. They were the Guards Armoured Division!!

Only my opinion!

Thanks Jerry

The 1RD is as expected

The 1KDG is interesting .... it has six feathers in its tail..... you can make out the slider in the shadow..... the scepter next to the sword is very thin (Like some of the collar badges). It might have some high point polishing .... but its difficult to say considering the poor resolution of the print. This badge image does appear to have some contrast highlights touched up in it (black outlines).... the light contrast in the photo was probably too bright so they put back some definition prior to print (hence a couple of the odd features).

Griff........I wore KDG.......and for what it is worth when I transfered from BAYS in Sept. 1947, I, along with about 100 others from 1st.Armd. were issued with 'THREE' identical badges, all cap badge size for beret and collars...no small collar dogs available.
I still have two of mine and even with my old eyes I can see difference to 1KDG pictured.
Mine have about ten tail feathers and a distinctive sceptre which has more detail....and it leans slightly towards the centre shield...
and this is me on the photo...which has been described as the 'Escape Committee Stalag 57'........actually it's our Gunfitter Class at Lulworth.
(don't miss the Luftwaffe' belt)...

Did you ever see an issued brass KDG at the time?

Sketchley

My next comment on reply was going to be..... "Why is he wearing what looks like a German belt?"

That 1KDG above has had some printers alterations to the image ..... I suspect the light was too bright and obscured it in the original photo and its been touched up to enhance the image.

Griff...re the Luftwaffe belt..........at Lulworth we were treated as craftsmen and not 'Nigs' as in a Training Regt..so as long as we did the job right we were left alone.....and at 17 I was a bit of a poser!!

Gentlemen please allow old bloke to digress and go off topic....no body listens to me now so this is my only chance...
This is for you Griffe, how my Luftwaffe belt came to its tragic end!
I stared collecting badges before WW2 (Uncle Horace was in the Remounts and still had an Enfield .303 under the sofa...he gave me his bandolier...) but I had badges off most of the old village WW1 vets.
I put them onto the belt later, all WW1 no repros then.
When I joined the Bays in Italy they were in an Italian Cavalry Barracks, quite ahead of it' time.
The toilets were individual cubicles with white tiled walls, a shower type sloping floor with a hole and two foot blocks where you adopted the 'squat & Crap' position.
The German belts when adjusted for size had a hook on one end that hooked onto the buckle...I unhooked mine thinking it was through the belt loops......it was not.
My treasured belt disappeared into the depths and my only hope is that when the Itie S*** house waller came to pump it it out it jammed up his pump!
Photo before it went!
