Default AUSTRALIA title + kangaroo

I found this title at Gympie on Saturday. It has seen better days, and I hope it is genuine. Is it Boer War vintage?

Stephen.

Hi Stephen

Ive not seen this one before but it would be unofficial and yes probably of about Boer War period. I have seen a pair of similar kangaroos, as collars, but without the Aust. And yes very nice thanks for showing them.

Regards

Phil.

Not my collecting interest, but I picked this up a while ago, can anyone confirm whether it's Boer War period and which Unit would have used it (if that's possible)?

Definitely unofficial hand cut Boer War but I don't think it is possible to identify who wore it. There are two sizes of this badge, and it appears that we have a picture of both in this thread.

Thanks Kingsley very much appreciated.

So I assume it's a badge universally worn by Australian troops?

Was it worn as a shoulder title?

Not universally worn but one of many, because there were dozens of Boer War contingents from various states. There are pictures on the Forum of various ones. Many of them were worn as a slouch hat badges, maybe as shoulder titles as well.
By the way, I have a brass numeral 22 among the very few that I have ever found. The only one I really want is a 32 as worn by my father.
