The brooched Life Guards and possibly the Royal Horse Guards with the tangs are OK IMO, a better photo of the RHG would help.
Cheers Tony.

Not that badge, the brass one in the first image of the opening post. The one posted here looks to be an earlier pattern WM IG piper's star and looks OK to me.

I agree, one of the most copied badges you are likely to ever encounter, they were certainly worn, briefly, upon the rock in 1939 and perhaps a decade before as part of the Cairo Brigade.
Not sure why they have been as widely faked as they have, I can only assume because they were guardsmen and Welsh. Regards Frank |

I am assuming you mean the large badge is an RIDG sabretache badge? It looks white metal to me and I think it is an Irish Guards piper's badge, not an RIDG sabretache badge.

Just from the photographs, I like the First, although, it has been broached, you can see where the slider had once been, but, I don't like the Second.

My personal opinion is that it is a reproduction mainly due to the quality of the strike & patina and the presence of prominent flanges on the loops which indicate modern fitments.
There is a common consensus among collectors that four loops is more likely to be the correct fitments (which I tend to agree with) but I have seen no substantiating evidence for this. John |

Thank you John
Re the patina on this one, it had been Brasso'ed. Had to clean off a lot of dried stuff. That might have affected the patina. |

Irish Guards pagri
This old veteran had originally four loops on it, the remains of two can be seen along with lots of lead solder and the one original is complimented by a home-made loop and more lead solder.
Interestingly the shamrock is not flat, but indented on the leaves. I would welcome members comments on this item. Rob |
