Canadian Cross Belt Plates
Hi all, it's been some time since I posted any pics (working is a real pain in the &*&^*^). Anyway, I thought I'd post a couple pics of the few cross-belt and pouch plates that I have. These have never been a focus of mine but when I've seen one that I could afford I've picked it up. If anyone else has a couple in thier own collections, post them! Let's see how many are out there!!
First up is a local regiment for me, the 6th Duke of Connaught's Own Rifles. Cheers, Greg |

Next up is an Officers' and Other Ranks 43rd Duke of Cornwall's Own Rifles, out of Ottawa. The officers badge is probably one of my better buys. The ORs belt plate has 3 lugs, which apparently indicates that it is a belt plate, rather than a helmet plate which has 2 lugs.

Up next is a blackend brass shoulder belt plate for the 14th Or Princess of Wales Own Rifles of Canada. This is a lovely plate and quite delicate. I think it's relatively common and some I have seen have very poor details and are quite heavy. This leads me to believe that it may have been repro'd in the past. It has 3 lugs to the back.

Finally, my last one is a circa 1930's plate to the Halifax Rifles. It has a makers plaque in the crown indicating that it was made by J.R.Gaunt, Montreal, Made in England. This one only has 2 lugs and appears to be chromed.
Give it up guys, let's see some more! G Last edited by GregN; 20-09-08 at 12:32 AM. |

Lovely items. They certainly knew how to create a stunning design in those days. Good job that that anodised aluminium wasn't around then... They might look even more stunning on a suitably coloured background material. What would that be in this case, black, dark green...? rgds, david |

Thanks David, they are very nice. I always amazed that as lovely as these are, they are rarely marked by the makers who made them. One would think they would be proud of the products they made
For background I used a sheet of black semi-gloss leather that I had cut out of an old documents binder. I think most of these badges would have been on a black pattent leather belt to begin with. There would have also been a whistle and chain, along with the pouch and pouch plate. Greg |

Greg those are fantastic. Would I be right in thinking the officers' plates are silver?

Excellent items Greg. Wonder if the Halifax Rifles "reincarnated" will have a full dress kit?

Hi Eddie, none that I have are marked at all unfortunately. I know the DCORs were a relativley weathy regiment so I would be surprised that there might be Sterling examples out there. I've seen a beautiful set of Victoria Rifles of Canada cross-belt plate, pouch plate, whistle and chain and a Winnipeg Rifles set that were all sterling. Spectacular is an understatement.
Jo, what was thier nickname Greg |

The Crown and VI are the Pouch badge. Collars are smaller.
