Default WRAC YouTube Video

Found this video on YouTube about the WRAC (no sound), and am curious about the formation patch and breast badge they are wearing. Can anyone tell?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTa8HCr6cXw

Thanks,

Terry

The breast badge looks Royal Army Service Corps

The main Formation Badge is Western Command, not sure of the other one, yet.

Interesting seeing the kings own cap badge appeared to have an oblong red backing, cut to the outer edge of the badge. (The lads on the Vickers gun).

And the East Lancs chaps with the square diamond 'primrose' yellow backing.

The WRAC cap badges are the KC pattern, the breast badges are the 1949-53 pattern RASC collar badge. I would date that film to around 1953 to 1955.

The makers date it as 1960.

I very much doubt the WRAC part is as late as 1960. The large number of WW2 Bedford O type 3 tonners and Austin K2 ambulances present make it highly unlikely. The presence of the Ford Thames E4 artillery tractor and the Austin Champs dates it as post-1952 when those types first entered service. The Ford looks like it has seen a bit of service which is how I reckoned the dates.

The film might be a compilation of clips taken over a period of time. If made in 1960 the presence of East Lancashire Regiment and King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment cap badges would indicate soldiers from Territorial Army Battalions, possibly at annual camp. Likewise the older vehicles and Austin Champs without Tac Signs might be from a reserve.

The WRAC Cpl who appears around 19 seconds into the film is wearing the sign of the RASC's 22nd (Southport) Corps Troop Column.

That's the one I have been looking for, if only I had a book with all the Formation Badges in.

Confirms my view in Post 8 that they are Territorial Army.
