Default Belgium Lancers

Here's a recent pickup - a nice set of Belgium Lancers (1st to 6th) badges - circa 1960s.

Am also looking for Belgium Guides regiment and Chasseur on Horse regiment badges as well if anyone happens to have any spares.

Mick

Hi Mick,

I bought a few Belgian items on a trip to Brussels back in the 80's:

I think you will find that the diamond badge is French, and the collar badge above it a Royal Artillery Other Ranks Collar badge (scroll UBIQUE single post fitting).

Marc, thanks for that. It did occur to me that the badge looked quite like the RA one, umm, because it is? Have you any idea what the French patch is? A trade or specialisation perhaps? It has 4 metal hooks sewn into the corners on the back so that it can be attached/detached.

Peter,

The French diamond shaped badge is the Foreign Legion sleeve patch worn on the left sleeve. The four hooks show it was for shirt sleeves, as they hook onto cotton ‘beckets’ sewn onto the sleeve. It is an Other Ranks badge (being all green) as officers and senior NCOs badges will have a gold grenade.

Default Leopold II service medal

@ColinS thanks for clearing up the Foreign Legion patch.

I picked up a Belgian medal at the weekend, it's a King Leopold II service medal, 2nd issue from 1951 issued to Belgian military servicemen who had served between 1865 and 1909.

I paid a fiver for it which isn't bad as they retail on-line for around 20 euros. The ribbon is a bit faded though.
