Default Argyll & Sutherland Gilt/Gold faced Badge

So I have this A&S.H. badge, but the facing is gilt, giving it as Gold appearance.

Everything I have seen says that Officers badges are chrome whilst Other Ranks are dull.

Can anyone shed light on this color badge?

Thanks

Officer badges should be silver or silver plate. Doesn't look like an officer badge quality but could it be silver plated and the silver has tarnished to a yellow/gold appearance?

Here is picture of the back of the badge.

Badge rear is chrome.

The coloring to the front is even throughout and to my untrained eye seems manufactured that way. But what do I know? That's why I am listing it here.

Thanks

Nail polish remover will strip off any laquer. If it's indeed chrome then its not right for that design of badge.

Its unlikely to be chrome as it has copper loops.

Never seen a chromed badge that didnt have chromed fittings as well.

In all probability a discoloured laquered white metal badge

regards

Could be, I once bought a pikelhaube with what I thought were brass fittings, turned out they were German silver under the nicotine staining.

In my opinion it is just a strangely toned WM badge. The reverse is not chromed. I also unfortunately have doubts as to whether the badge is even genuine. It looks very new with fresh looking lugs for a solid center Gaels badge, even though it appears to be a nice strike. Hope I am wrong!

I have a Black Watch O/Rs badge which has been gilded over the wreath to make it look like a Sgts badge. Maybe somebody promoted on campaign who didn't have access to a regular Sgts badge. Maybe somebody just had the front gilded?
Cheers,
Alex
