Bakelite grenade badge 'R.A.A.B.F.'
The attached scan is of a light brown bakelite grenade similar to the well known WW2 plastic badge issued to the RA. It is marked on the reverse Edward brindley & Co Ltd Africa House London.
The differences are : a) The scroll reads 'RAABF' not UBIQUE' b) light brown not chocolate brown in colour c) fitting is pinback not tangs/blades d) marginally larger than the RA badge e) differences in the 'seeding' and design on the grenade's body A Google search has failed to identify the badge but RAABF stands for Royal Artillery Association Benevolent Fund. This was formed 01/12/43 from the RA War Commemorative Fund. On 10/1/51 the fund was renamed the RA Charitable Fund. I believe this badge was either a fund-raiser or a badge worn by the fund's representatives. Steve. |

It was used as a 'gisit' or as you have written a fund raiser.
