2 bomb badges for identification
Hello everyone,
Can any member cast light on the two cloth badges which are shown in the following image. I have had them for some years and so far I have drawn a blank regarding their origin. Any information would be gratefully received. ORISKANY. |

Hi. A wild guess, something to do with Explosives Ordnance Disposal???? The badge on the right looks as it could be worn on the British Uniform.

2 bomb badges for identification
Quote:
Thank you for that. I should have added that the badges are not shown in "British Army Proficiency Badges" by Edwards and Langley. In the past I have been in correspondence with the QM of a British Army Ordnance Disposal unit. The badges were no known to the QM at that time. ORISKANY. |

They may be WW2 replica patches, however they do appear to be just the EOD badges, worn by bomb disposal officers.

The one on the left is a curiosity. I used to work with the Regimental Colonel of the Royal Engineers, a Bomb Disposal person himself. He was responsible for the introduction of the yellow/blue bomb on khaki badge, and told me it was for Qualified BD personnel not serving in a BD unit, as the red background of the original badge was a 'battle honour'. As those of know, especially those with Langley & Edwards, the red - on the words of badge's designer, Queen Mary, had 'no particular significance', so there we have a soldier's story codified into dress. So to find the khaki version with a red rim is curious (if it's a British badge, which it has every appearance of being!)
