WESTLERS
I had a wander around my local market this morning and while enjoying a bacon cheese burger(with raw onions) I saw a sign in a food stall that looked out of place. It said "ARMY SURPLUS" This I had to check and low and behold there they were:-
TINS & TINS OF COMPO SAUSAGES for sale at 2 for £1. Made by Westlers of North Yorkshire, I got a few

May I make a suggestion that would enhance the enjoyment factor?
1. Dig a trench at the bottom of your garden. 2. Get the old no2 cooker fired up and get the sausages on the go. 3. Wait until it rains, sit back, eat the sausages and enjoy!

Phil,
It could be for a variety of reasons e.g. It was packed in 1967 and passed its shelf life last year. Soldiers these days have much healthier ration packs and they have got rid of any leftovers. No lard encrusted pretend meat sausages these days, just muesli bars, pasta and chicken and omelette boil in the bag. If you gave compo sausages to today’s soldiers the Government may well have a mutiny on its hands! Ivan

Oh, cheers guys, I'm surprised that the Military actually worry about that when the foods canned.
I remember when going hiking with some Royal Marines, they were eating rat packs which were 3 years out of date. I ate one of the Yorkie Bars, it was a non standard size, the wrapper said "not for civvies". 1967

The other thing they had was an energy drink mix. They didnt mix them with water, they just tipped the crystals down their throats

hi all,
are you not sure those sausages were part of a ten man ration pack,but then i remeber when it was either menu a,b,c,d. mostly tins and the tin opener came in very handy for opening cans of booze philip Last edited by rockape560; 20-05-12 at 10:42 PM.
