A mark of cadency of the first son, apparently, that horizontal bar thing.

I don’t know if it makes any difference but mine has what heraldry calls a Label above the lion whereas those mentioned are on the top of the lion.

This is a DLOY helmet plate. Shows how some Lancashire units display the device.

As stated above why is the Label above the lion instead of on top of it like the other coat of arms. Does it make any difference?

This is the badge on Coldstream. Months later they posted another badge with exactly the same description only this one is obvious who wore it (now also in my collection). Like Simon I’m now very sceptical about their attribution and wonder why they would wear both badges in the same period. Hence my quest to confirm who wore it.

Kevin,
They wouldnt. Its a fall back position that Bosleys use to identify unidentifiable badges. Happens all the time with Victorian items that have no County or Number designation on them that are then attributed to Lancashire, Lanarkshire, Gloucestershire etc with no evidence ofit having been worn by them. Other websites then copy that attribution and the circle is complete. best wishes

Just thought I would post an update having contacted Mercian. Unfortunately he’s was unable to identify the badge, therefore they both still remain a mystery.
