Metal Detector Find - Georgian or William IV?
Good day
A local metal detectorist gave me this. I think it is either horse furniture or possibly a cross belt/pouch badge. The pale parts are what is left of the gilding so I'm assuming an officer's badge. I can't work out the cypher. DGLV perhaps. Any ideas? Duke of Something Something Volunteers?? Many thanks James |

OMG Tarabelle, I think you may have hit the nail on the head.
Duke of Gloucester's London Volunteers. How extraordinary to find it in a field in Lancashire. Many thanks for taking the time to find the article and for posting. |

...and not even on eBay - someone must be hoping on big returns for that!
Normally doesn't get to me this, but it really is starting to wind me up at the moment (Maybe I need another coffee?)

Some just use this Forum to make money. Extracting the urine comes to mind.....

Greetings Earthlings.
I have had a few sips of Guinness and a few sips of red wine and having read this I am now somewhat irritated. This bloke is a taking the piss, all he ever does is ask questions, ask for valuations and as far as my slightly befuddled memory allows, offers nothing in return. This is not what this great forum is about, it is here to further knowledge, share information and experience within this particular collecting sphere and to a certain extent, educate, (if that is the correct word), and offer advice to those who seek to learn. It is not a valuation site for those seeking to increase the amount of cash in their wallets. As has been justly mentioned, he doesn’t have the decency to offer it here on the forum. (He's lost the vote already) My opinion only, but perhaps others may agree, I know not, but I would like to see a maximum of 2 or 3 requests for a valuation/ what is it/how much can I get for it requests from the same contributor, before they are excluded/removed from the forum. Regards Slightly somewhat mellow but brain still active. Brian. |

I crossed swords with this user (take that as you like !) maybe 3 years ago when he first joined the forum and straight away was using the forum to further his business. I have never had any further dealings with him and I suggest that all other forum members do the same.
For the benefit of Aussie members, "Not happy Jan!" Regards Phil. |

anyone called something or other militaria is likely to be a dealer and is not likely to be asking for help for his collection

A simple solution is to put the gent on your 'blocked list'.
You will not see the contents of his messages again. |

Thank you for your comments
I gave the badge back to the metal detectorist. I was just interested to know what it was. I'm just curious but I guess thats a crime. |
