29th Waterloo O.K.?
I've been leary of this badge ever since I first received it. For how old it's suppose to be it's got a made yesterday feel to it. I'd also like an opinion on the circular j.r.gaunt&son ltd london plate on the back of this badge. Any opinions are appreciated.Thansks Jim

These badges have been showing up with great frequency on ebay. At the show last summer there were a few around. As you say Jim, the condition and number of these badges around makes one wonder as to authenticity.

here is a circular plate off a 21st Co. of London badge from our makers names collection. do they look the same? I think so. if it's a copy they are good at it. ( assuming our photo is good of course )

A couple of thoughts... Could the 29th be nos? Somebody found a box and is doling them out slowly? Or, were the dies among those sold off, and an entrepreneur has run a bunch of strikings? The J.R. Gaunt plate would not be hard to make? And the plates could be applied to many different strikings.
Perhaps I am just being a bit parnoid? Odd things have been happening in restrikes. |

I'm almost thinking that if I see a circular gaunt plate I'm walking away from it. If like Bill says someone has found a box of mint badges and are leaking them out slowly then why wasn't the price higher. I got this one for about $12... Am I really that lucky ... or stupid? ( you don't have agree with the last part)

Chaps,
In case you Canadian chaps had not seen this link in the british section, you may be interested in this. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...read.php?t=653 In my opinion that tank badge is a complete fake. The ORs' badges were made with sliders and evry lugged one I have seen has been repro. The rear stamping is poor and it is exceptionally rare for Gaunt to mark any badge sof that period except for private purchase Offrs' Bzs, some Scottish and RND. These OR badge plates were themselves square not round. Gaunt did make civialian badges so I suspect that these round plates have either been forged (and fake square ones have been made for RND badges) or removed from a low value badge. Either way I would suggest that this RTC badge is proof that someone is doing this and must cast further doubt on your Canadian specimen. Alan |

Run don't walk those lugs tell the tale they where never applied like that before 2002. For some reason this badge is a favorite target. ALWAYS WATCH FOR THOSE SUNKEN LUGS SAME AS THE CEF ARTILLERY FAKES.
