Appleby College....
Mazeas Pre-1914 shows the Appleby College cadets as wearing the 10th Royal Grenadiers cap badge. The 10th (X) Royal Grenadiers cap badge was not approved until 1917. Does anyone know for how long Appleby College wore the badge? Did they change to the plain Royal Grenadiers cap badge? (Authorized in 1929.)

I have a friend who attended Appleby in the 1980s. At that time they were wearing The Royal Regiment of Canada cap badge.

Thanks Phil. Appleby College Cadets must be affiliated with the Royals and their predecessors in some way. Wonder what the connection is?

I don't know how the connection originated, but I believe that St Andrew's College is affiliated with The 48th Highlanders, Bishop's College School is affiliated with the Black Watch and St George's School in Vancouver was (is?) affiliated with The Seaforth Highlanders. My only point is that private school/militia regiment affiliations are not uncommon.

Does this help, Bill? From armycadethistory.com:
The number 440 was originally given to a corps in B.C. from 1913 to 1915. This Corps originally formed in Feb 1915 (MO 74/15) as 440 Appleby School Cadet Corps. affil.: Royal Grenadiers Dec 31, 1926. In 1926, the corps was affiliated with the Royal Grenadiers, and in 1937, with the Royal Regiment of Toronto Grenadiers. affil.: Royal Regt of Toronto Grenadiers, Nov 6, 1937. This Corps was later designated the Appleby College Cadet Corps under sponsorship by the Board of Governors - Appleby College and affiliated with the Royal Regiment of Canada.

Thanks David, forgot to check the army cadet site. Confirming the affiliation is one part of the question. Still wondering why they affiliated with the RG/Royals?
