Default New TA "change"....

Hi All

I had some disturbing news last night regarding changes to some famous old names. Under the "cover" of the new expansion of the TA within the new Army structure .....they are actually going to be reducing units. This is what I know:-

RMLY :- To be disbanded
A (RWY) Squadron RY :- Disbanded (Surviving RWY = B Sqn Wessex Yeo)
South Notts Hussars :- Disbanded

A new "A Squadron, The Royal Yeomanry" will be formed :-

Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry (Main Squadron)
Leicestershire & Derbyshire PAO Yeomanry (Outpost of 25 men)
South Notts Hussars (In name only)

To be known as :- A (Sherwood Rangers, Leicestershire & Derbyshire PAO Yeomanry, South Notts Hussars) Squadron, The Royal Yeomanry.

Remnants of RMLY to become "B (RMLY) Squadron, The Royal Yeomanry"

Nothing has been confirmed yet.......

Stunned and mortified are not the words to describe the news...... the "Green Cav' Mafia" from Nottingham always seem to come out smelling of roses!!!

Those details came out in the original announcement 3 or 4 months ago.

B Sqn RWY are planning to base a troop or more at Swindon the current home of A Sqn RY. The current soldiers will have the choice of this or the RGH Squadron RWY which is not too far away.

A Squadrom gave up all their Royal Wiltshire Yeomanary Badges some time ago to adopt a Royal Yeomanary one so I don't think of it as RWY any more.

Trouble with us is that we have "enemy" within...... making sure that "Green" dominates.

20 years as a proper Cav Squadron (after 20 years in the wilderness of Infantry)..... and they are having a go at us again ..... its criminal.

A Squadron RY have now been given a reprieve until 2015 and are campaigning to make this permanent.

I hope they get it as well..... and stay as A Sqn RY. The Green caps should get the chop..... not the Scarlet caps..... they had the luck of getting CVRT after FOX by joining the other Yeomanry..... and then come back to us and still want it all

That is sad news. As someone who was attached to the Royal Yeomanry before the cap badge change (C Squadron REME LAD) I know how important unit identity is to each of the separate squadrons.

I was in the LAD of A Squadron and all TA LAD's is something else which I understand is going.

The story I have been told is that in future all TA REME personal will be part of 5 regional REME Battalions and units will have to bid for support when they go on excercise or Camp.

We are "sharing" vehicles between Squadrons at the moment

Good news is that the "Welsh Cavalry" QDG's is the new parent regular regiment to the RY

Does anybody have any information regarding the collar badges worn by the different squadrons of the RLMY?

And David Cameron thinks these units can be quickly mobilised if needed.
Maybe they will travel to the battlefield by bus

They can as long as, say, Belize, Gibraltar, Cyprus and the Falklands don't all kick off at the same time

Unfortunately these changes were made necessary by someone wasting all the money so Cameron and co have been forced into this situation. My complaint about reductions has always been , as far back as the 1950s , that it should be possible to reduce the army without losing all the names by forming composite battalions/regiments where companies/squadrons are badged differently.

D company 3rd Bn Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment are being re badge as a Ground Support Troop of the Army Air Corps. No only disgusting to Infantrymen with a long and proud heritage but it is also, not only the end of a territorial Infantry presence in Portsmouth but the end of any Infantry presence, regular or reserve in Hampshire! Deeply depressing!

As the TA have failed to deliver so far so I would get ready for more cuts when the TA fail to recruit to 30,000 by 2018 like the Duke of Westminster promised.
