Badge
My guess is American.

Ed is right about the US aspect of the patch. The design elements are US wings and the SSF arrows. Unfortunately "Americanisms" have been creeping into Canadian insignia over the last couple of decades.

Americanisms
Bill is correct that a number of 'Americanisms' have been creeping into badge designs. In this case the US Wings and the OEF mission name are distinctly American.

Guys, don't forget that most Canadians in Afghanistan are there with the NATO under the ISAF mission. Most special forces guys are there as part of the U.S. lead OEF so it's likely that the patch is American and a Canadian got it while serving with special ops as part of OEF. Even the guys guarding the gates at Graceland get the SWASM as opposed to the GCS.
Just my two cents. Cheers, John |

Fellow I got it from is a Canadian soldier but I dont know if it was issued to him or may have traded for it. I agree its likely American origin. Cheers Brian

It's a patch (one of the variants) of US Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force - Afghanistan (CJSOTF-A). It's a major US SOF unit in A-stan consisting of contingents from a few coalition countries - in past it was French, Canadian, Czech, UAE, Jordanian SOF units, etc.
They served within Operation "Enduring Freedom" Now most of the SOF units from mentioned countries contribute to ISAF SOF. |
