Hi Tom, The patch illustrated is a formation patch for the Fort Garry Horse, 5 Canadian Armoured Division. The order of battle of 5 CAD changed several times during the war, and the FGH were in that formation from 13 August 1940 until 1 Jan 1943. When formation patches and shoulder titles were taken into wear in the Canadian army, the decision was made to allow corps to have the unit name imposed on the formation patch. In the case of the armouerd units, the shoulder title was the Canadian Armoured Corps, with a division patch with the regimental abbreviation imposed. So the FGH would have worn the CAC shoulder title with the 5 CAD patch.
Tom, what other cloth was in the box?
