Hi all not sure what to make of first badge not seen anything like it

The A/A looks ok but has it the same issues as suffolk and beds &herts

The first badge is a Victorian one and a nice example, all the rest are good badges which I would be happy with.

Thanks for that Rob I knew what it was, but not if it was correct.
VB's not happy with the third looks like a casting of an original the 4th I think is Ok but strangely seems to have been relugged after having it's slider removed

All of your ORs' VB badges are good, albeit somewhat offset to a certain extent, although that could be just as a result of the angle of the pictures.

I agree, the 4th is in all likelihood a badge that has had the slider removed and replaced by lugs.

The 3rd may also have been re-lugged in the distant past'

The Officers' badges, to 8th and 4th-7th battalions are both very nice examples and not items seen every day..........reasonably scarce items

The 8th badge, in my opinion, is a Regimentally altered early OSD, removing Egypt from the plinth with the cross hatching....Egypt is discernible from the rear.

All in all a splendid little collection.

One WM title appears to have matching loops in 'WM'.

If so then its a plated GM title.

It’s unfortunate that the replacement fittings on the rear of the 2 blank scroll badge are poorly done.

I have and have seen several Essex badges, as well as badge to other units, on which the fixings were replaced with a brooch type fitting. I suspect that some were done as a quick fit Sweetheart type badge, but I also think that some were adapted this way to fit in forage caps.

The reversed metal badge is an extremely scarce item, one of only a handful or so that I know of. Great to see another one. Yours looks as it has been well used and seen some service wear.

The 1st Officer’s silver badge, very nice, what is the date on the hallmark?
The 2nd may be simply a poor casting and not a casting from another, the front looks fine to me.
The 3rd is probably a Gaunt made badge.
I agree with you re the 3rd OSD, it does look somewhat suspect, a tad flimsy and the blade fixings look very amateurish.

Onto the collars: the top right pair are 2nd pattern Eagles, the bottom row has I believe a pair of 3rd pattern Eagles and possibly a single mess jacket collar.
The Eagles aren’t the easiest to sort out, apart from the 1st pattern, due to similarities and dates of use.
If you have a copy of Colin Churchill’s Collar badge book, this will explain things better than I can.

The Shoulder titles all look good, and as Simon stated, one of the WMs may be plated; the only WM shoulders I have and have seen are a pair for 4th VB.
The Cadet items aren’t all that common.

Again, a nice collection all round.

Agree with Brian, a lovely little collection there.

The white metal T/5/ESSEX was worn on Full Dress. Theoretically there should be the same for the other Bns but AFAIK they've only been seen for T/5th. Certainly I have only seen for T/5th and 4th VB and would be interested to hear if others are known.

Like Brian I particularly like the regimentally altered OSD badges with the EGYPT removed, a job well done but with enough visible evidence to be able to tell the story. A hard badge to find.

Yes over three periods In the Seventy's when at school restrikes were easy they were new and the antique dealers didn't think badges were worth anything and would keep them for me stopped for about ten years,, started again in the ninety's loads of fakes got fed up sorting through the rubbish and stopped for another ten years started again about ten years ago mostly buying in auctions but only if I can view you really need a badge in your hand saleroom is good to see whats there but some of the pictures are terrible and bulk lots have to be sifted some very good mixed with rubbish, personally I like auctions but take the view the auctioneer is the sellers agent he can't serve the buyer as well so in my opinion buyers premium has always been a ripoff, that said the essex officers HP was misdiscribed as O/R along with a Cornwall by an auction house that should know better so I picked up both for less than 100

The second of the silver officer badges you posted looks odd to me. Probably original but it is the first time I have seen an officer badge with lugs like that. Would it be possible to see a close-up pic of that badge, front and back?
