Question Welsh Regiment or Prince of Wales's (North Staffords Regiment) Off Glengarry

Hi all,

A recent addition - Officers glengarry badge to either The Welsh Regiment or The Prince of Wales's (North Staffordshire Regiment) as K&K 272 centre piece and universal scroll fit better with what I imagine would have been on their glengarry badge than K&K 254/255 with extra scroll below POW plumes.

I am aware there is a book on Welsh badges so could anyway assist with setting me right here please.

Sure Jeff will know...

Many thanks in advance, Dean.

Hi Dean
Another nice badge for your collection. Yes, it is indeed an Officers North Staffs glengarry badge as per 1883, 1891, & 1894 Dress Regs. Regards Jeff
PS: The Welsh Regt badge was similar, but the POW feathers were much smaller and there was a silver scroll (with motto) underneath. Will try to dig out my pics to show you later.

Default for comparison

Hi Dean
As promised some of my pics for comparison. They are from the late Eric Tills collection (now sadly dispersed) tho' I intend to use these and others in Part 2 of my Glengarry book which I hope will be published by next Christmas. Hope they are of some interest to you. Regards Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Many thanks for sharing the glengarry images and for the positive ID as North Staffs.

Officers glengarry badges are very attractive - I hope one day to have a Durhams, Lincolns or Leicesters.

Cheers Dean.

Hi Dean
You (and indeed all) are very welcome. But, you know you already have the Offs Lincoln Regt glengarry badge, it is on page 3 of your Lincs Album ! There was no gilt crowned garter variation. Regards. Jeff

Thanks Jeff,

I had not appreciated that there was no gilt Officers pattern crowned garter glengarry for the Lincs. So much to learn !

Cheers Dean

Hi Kevin
Yes, very nice indeed. One can see a number of differences, viz. the crowned gilt garter, the plumes themselves are also a slightly different size and shape, perhaps a slightly different period or, (more likely I think) just a manufacturer's difference. The Volunteer badge is also very nice (and rare too) many thanks for showing them. Regards Jeff
PS : As promised I shall be also using your images in the book (if I may)...which seems to be comming along nicely thanks to everyone's support.
