LCC = London County Council
Many of the Council's services used this design. |

Hello Michel
I think the order of initials is 'LCC' and the button is for London County Council. Not 100% sure though, so perhaps someone else will confirm. Regards Roger There you are, confirmation from btns! He beat me to it! |

Hi Michel
Without wanting to sound like an echo - it is London County Council. Probably not particularly old either. Did you find it in France or in the UK? David PS.... I should have paid more attention to your post - it was found in England, presumably in or around London? |

Michel
As regards date, it would be 1890's at the very earliest but is probably more recent than that. David |

I think I have never seen this backmark.
It is similar to the 'greek key' and 'hammer key' backmarks and says "Everyone in our business knows we made them, but our customers do not" Has anyone seen it before? If so, have collectors given it a name? |

The explanation for them probably varies a bit but I thought the usual explanation was when the buttons were sold through a retailer, they would ask for this type of mark to be used rather than the usual manufacturers backmark. Probably so when buttons were re-ordered it would be from the retailer and not directly from the manufacturer. David |
