South African Medal Group
Here is a group of Medals to a S.A. soldier. I am basing this on the South African Service Medal included in the group. All medals are named except the Defense Medal. I found these at a militaria show in Ohio this past weekend.
Named to: A.J. Hutton. M11340 I have tried to do a little research but not turning up much. Does the M prefix denote Malay/Indian Corps? All help is appreciated Jack

Hi Jack
Yes, M is Malay. There were 20+ prefixes to SA medals, so it is a collecting field in its own right. Looks like a fairly standard group but unfortunately there isn't much scope for researching SA medals on the internet. You'll have to get a local researcher to go to the archive in pretoria and dig up the paperwork. Probably cost you around $20. I'm afraid I don't have any contaacts for this but I'm sure one of the other members could help you out. Cheers, Alex |
