Default Light Horse Regt flags post apartheid

Hi All,

can any tell me if there was a post apartheid LH Regt badge with the new SA flag. It makes sense that there would be. If so does anyone have a copy to post?

The flags were originally the Union Jack and the Royal Standard but when SA became a republic, it changed to the then, new flag of the Republic. Was there continuation?

When I google the LHR website it still shows the old flag

I include my little collection; forgive me for the inglorious mounting on a beer tray but this is only temporary and corrugated is excellent for mounting.

Hi Iain, a new emblem has been approved, but I haven't yet seen a new badge. Maybe it has been made, if so I would also like to see a picture. Regards Andrew

Hi Andrew,

thanks for the response.
The date seems to be 2002; it wasn't very clear. It does seem a long time though for a change to come through when the flag was such an important issue.
I was hoping I could expand my collection!

regards,

Iain

Hi Iain
The mounting of badges on beer trays opens up a whole new world of possibilities, in fact it could make badge mounting a far more enjoyable experience
Cheers,
Alex

Hi Alex,

yes the "unfortunate" part is you have to find somewhere for the beers first! hic..

I use beer trays to separate different categories etc, before permanent mounting, there are extremely useful, but then when you move the trays the badges slide, so I decided to fix them to the corro.

regards,

Iain

Hi Andrew,

maybe you should ask William, (SA Brigade,) if he can pull some strings.

I know there isn't a huge amount of variation with the LHR badges but does anyone have any different badges to those I've displayed?

regards,

Iain

Guys

A year or two back I had heard from a chap who belongs to one of KZN's famous old units, that the present SA govt actually wanted to move away from the "Colonial era" badge designs, just changing the flags and names on badges was apparently not good enough. It appears they wanted more indigenous designs......fact or fiction? Andrew what have you heard?

Brian
