The new 'stepout' uniform, with chromed badges, was phased in over several years, so there may not be a specific date for the change-over. IIRC, it was approved in 1974, but first generally issued from 1976. Some Citizen Force regiments continued to wear brass/gilt or bronze badges anyway, and while some later changed to chrome, some did not.

Hi Arthur, do you maybe have a copy of the order from 1974? Regards Andrew

Hi Andrew

Sorry, I don't. I recall that an issue of Paratus in 1974 featured the new uniform, with photos of someone modeling it, but I don't recall ever seeing any order or official dress regs.

Hi Guys

I served with a Corps Sgt Major...I do believe the very first Armour Corps Sgt Major George Hattingh who later took a demotion to Brigade Sgt Major at 84 Motorised Bde in the late 1970's. An ex WW2 soldier and highly decorated.

I do believe his one son is still in the army or was as 2IC at 5 SAI Ladysmith, old man Hattingh was a dedicated soldier who sadly passed on about 5 odd years back.

Brian
