Default 3rd Div artillery

I believe this is the sort of thing you're referring in relation to 3rd Div artillery patches. The backing is a dull greyish khaki woollen material, and the patch itself appears to be more like melton than the usual broadcloth. The whole thing has the effect of being an integral piece of manufacturing, i.e. it's not a standard WW1 patch 'tacked on' to any old bit of cloth. I have had this example for a very long time, and I haven't seen this technique on any other unit's patches.

Thanks, Keith. When I read your description I realised I had an example in my collection. To be honest I hadn't actually researched it, so your account of the photos of 3rd Div artillerymen with 'backed' patches filled in some key information. Well done!
