It would seem some Nigerians do need a lesson in English grammar, punctuation and syntax. Too much Boko and not enough Haram in school I suspect.
I really liked the bit about leaving your computer on 'its the only way I can reach me'. Far-out! Mark |

I had something similar a couple of years ago, where I was purportedly in Spain (I wasn't) and had been mugged etc. I didn't receive any money either! So Dave, watch out!

Hi Dave
I'm pretty confident that you have heard of travel insurance As a matter of course though I would change all of your message/ebay/paypal passwords as it looks some one has been into your Yahoo account all the best Steve |

There is an update on this scam.
One of my contacts outside this forum sent out a similar message. He was mugged in Greece. Need 1200 euros etc. Send by Western Union, the system to transfer money to black holes. It gave the Nigerian scammers my e-mail address. Since then the mailbox provider has notified me several times of attempts to reset my password. I guess they fed my e-mail addrress to one of their systems and it is now hammering reset passwords to my account. Please make sure that you have a 'strong' password to your e-mail. Do not think you only need it to download your mail. The same user name and password give web access. |

I'm feeling left out, nobody has e-mailed me asking for money.

Thanks to all the lads who expressed their concern, by now everyone knows it was a scam but it has left me with quite a problem, one that I am struggling with because I am quite IT illiterate ?
What ever has happened, I am not receiving any emails and some of my folders have disappeared, this includes a folder with all my holiday info in it, I do have a " g-mail " address but I have never sent it to anyone and now I have to create a new e-mail address I don't particularly want to stray too far from yahoo ?? Experts.............would it be safe to still use yahoo ? and how would having my e-mail account hacked, effect my passwords ?? Thanks in advance. Dave. PS, There is one thing that concerns me, it is only forum members who have received the begging letter ? none of my friends or family have had an e-mail, not yet anyway ?? Curious ?? Dave.

Hi Dave,
Which mail account was compromised? Was it the mail account supplied by your ISP provider? Was it a free yahoo mail account? Did you conquer it back from the scammers by accessing it and changing your password? Or did you give up on it? Were the deleted folders in your mail account or on your private computer? If it was a yahoo account and if you had a backup "controlling or notification" mail adress (of course with a different password) then you can get control back by stating on your login screen: "cannot access" - then it will send a link to your other address. You can use it to change your password. There are more options I know to get access to a mailbox. - Find a nice program on the web. It asks you for your e-mail address and its password. Many people enter both and their friends get a nice invitation to do the same. - have a poor antivirus program and they get into your computer - have a poor password like "Dave123" and have it hacked. etc. |
