Battersea Cadet units
I have been researching the cadet units of Battersea schools. There are various reasons why Battersea cadet badges have proved to be problemmatic:
1. K&K wrongly attribute 2 cap badges to St John's School Leatherhead OTC. 2. Emanuel School OTC seem to have had 2 badges but only one is recorded in K&K or any other book. 3. Battersea GS shared a very similar school badge to Walter St Johns, Battersea as they had the same founder but chose not to use that design for their cadet corps. Pictured are the 2 cap badges of Emanuel School OTC, the Walter St John's cadet corps cap badge and slightly different design worn by the CCF (with the extra crescent and hand on the shield) from c.1940 to 1969 when the CCF closed. Also shown is Battersea GS Cadet Corps badge which was worn up to 1940 before the school changed to the RTR and the RTR beret. Both Cadet Corps were affiliated to the 23rd London Regt and may have worn their badge before that of the cadet corps. The GS archives show it in use between the wars but in 1932 they were definitely wearing the large shield badge. I have been unable to date the introduction of the the 2 x Cadet Corps badges and it remains possible that it was the 1930 change that prompted them but I can't find any photos to prove it. |

Alan,
This photo may help. It appears to show the Rose and Portcullis without a scroll, a badge that was worn on the battledress collar in the 1960s. Jon |

Thanks it may be the second badge in the post above with the chin strap obscuring the scroll.
