Getting back on track.

Is it possible that the man is Montgomery Imperial Yeo (49th IY) as they did wear a darker feather hackle (Glam wore a white one).

A good suggestion Jonathan, it certainly looks like a darker hackle or plume to me.

The family whose album it came from has no Montgomeryshire connections at all but as I can't ID him then it is an option.

Having enlarged the photo I think what you are seeing is a a line of dark mortar and no hackle is worn.

This is David Evans in 1905 who is possibly the only contender to be the Trooper in the photo. He is the only family member to be the right age for the photo in 1900. He is not on the QSA role so either did not leave UK or did not qualify for the medal. He married in mid 1901 so was in Wales that year.

I am not sure that it is the same person so I am back to square one!
