It looks naval but doesn't correspond to any of the current navy rank slides. It could be British customs. A Wikipedia search reveals that after the mid 1950's, Chief Preventative Officers wore three rings.

I can confirm that it is not "Customs" related. Sealink (UK) used a similar "logo" as part of their corporate image during the 1980's and the finish (gilt) together with the flat style of manufacture suggests that it may be from a commercial uniform rather than one worn by a Government agency etc., which would in any event normally feature the Monarch's Crown. As an aside, Sealink operated a ferry service between Dover and France (Calais) for many years.

Dave.

They certainly did. Do you think it's one of theirs?

BTW the monarch's crown doesn't appear on most rank badges.

I think it is a fantasy piece.
Genuine uniform buttons are to an organisation, not to a rank.

Could be from a yacht club?

Hello Didier

I don't think your button is military, even though the design does look rather like a naval rank insignia!

I think it is either a "transportation" company button (as already mentioned, something like Sealink is a strong possibility) or it is a fashion button as used on jackets or blazers.

Regards
Roger
