PR slip on pair
Arrived today, good condition pair of PR slip on titles. Unissued as I think these always are and no evidence that they were ever issued from documentary sources, though the ACI was posted in another thread.

Well done Jerry; issued or not these are hard to find let alone as a matching set.

Thanks Luc and Frank. I was very pleased to find these, as most Para items are beyond my budget and these are a great addition to my small collection of such items.

Hello Jerry,
Yes, I know what you mean regarding prices, madness really, cloth has gone silly now, but, even just twenty years ago, it was quite cheap, although the fakes and copies were ever present, so was the real thing too. You can still find really good plated and white metal beret badges though, for what is still very little money these days. Regards Frank |

HI nice find , I do think these were worn - may be for a VERY short period ?but certainly worn I saw a `used` set in an old collection many moons back , just my opinion but I do think they were worn , perhaps taken out of use because the parachute harness straps knacked the slip ons ???
Would love to see a picture of these in use ......... Is there am embroided verson or just printed ?? LUC ???

Hi,
Here is a picture of my pair: I have up till now only seen un-issued pairs, and always printed. Like many others I am still waiting for photographic evidence that these were actually worn, although I do believe these are real. regards, Albert

I have a single Beret badge and a few pairs of wings and two tunics that belonged to Para qualified soldiers, though not sure if that means they were ex paras or just had done the course. I was admiring the pair of wings on the sales section posted recently, they look very good, I'll have to speak to the wife. thats if they are still there. As regards the titles usage as Nemo mentions, almost certainly some of these must have been issued, but quickly replaced by the sew on type I assume.

The link may not work but here is partial quote from the ACI and my earlier post
Clothing Parachute Regiment - Badges and Buttons Shoulder title for other ranks - the letters "P.R." and ..........Indents for titles will only be submitted in respect of troops clothed in khaki drill garments ......... This may explain why they are made on drill type material not on the more usual BD wool and also that they may never have been issued in quantity? So if there are pictures of the slip on being worn it would be on khaki drill so perhaps Palestine 1946 1947?? Tim

Para ACI
Para ACI on Badges & Slip-on Shoulder Titles, as referanced by g_g_a in last post
With the introduction of Coloured Distingusing 'Arms of Strips' in 1941, the use of the Slip-on Titles was discontinued unless on overseas service. It would also have be pointless on Battledress for the Parachute Regiment & Attached Units with Pegusus & Airboune Strips to need further identification? Para units served in N. Africa in late 42 and in Sicily and Italy in 43 and 44, so maybe issued/used then.

Still does not answer the question " Where are the pictures of the slip on being worn? " KD was definitely worn in Palestine but with the red beret, wings and Pegasus, wearing shoulder titles was possibly superfluous! Tim
