Default 16th Canadian Light Horse

I managed to pick up this hat and uniform at a local auction today. It was the only military item there and I had to wait around for a long time before it came up. One thing that has me thinking on it is that the cap and collar badges are to the 16th Canadian Light Horse but the shoulder titles are to the 14th Canadian Light Horse. Both are Saskatchewan Regiments so I'm wondering if there is some overlap in there somewhere. Thanks in advance for your replies. Jim

Jim,
I think you will find that the epaulette metal badge and coloured cloth slider identified the wearer as a member of the CEF Canadian Corps Cavalry Regiment, later the Canadian Light Horse, not the 14th Canadian Light Horse. The Regiment was composed of squadrons from the 19th Alberta Dragoons 1st Hussars, and 16th Canadian Light Horse and each squadron wore cap and collar the badges of the parent unit. The squadrons had been, respectively, the Divisional Cavalry Squadrons of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Canadian Divisions. and were combined to form the Canadian Corps Cavalry Regiment in January 1916.
It is strange that the tunic bears no First World War ribbons, but perhaps he had not received them when he took his tunic off for the last time. You have a real gem here.
