Thumbs up Halifax Rifles

Being in the right section, I wanted to post these two interesting photographs of members of the Halifax Rifles RCAC, before disbandment in 1965, showing them wearing Rifle Regt. badges of rank(black on red) with the black beret. One is in colours the second in B&W both showing good info.

Default so, speaking of the Halifax Rifles...

what's up with the 900 (it seems) metal variations and finishes for their KC cap badges? I have copper, toned copper, bronze, blackened and white -- almost silver looking -- metal, and have seen even more versions than that.

Did this regiment only order badges in lots of 10 or 20 and take whatever metal the makers had on hand, or is there a rhyme and reason to the huge variety?

Before I pick one from the pile, mount it in a frame, post a photo on the forum and get 19 members asking "why'd you..." (), does anyone know which version(s) would most likely have been that used in 1943, and/or why there are so many types in the first place?

My thanks in advance.

Default Halifax Rifles

I have a q/c Halifax Rifles badge in white metal with short vertical lugs. I think that it was meant to go on the waist belt plate. This was a common practice with Canadian armoured regiments in the post 1945 period.
I hope that this helps.

David, This may be a partial answer to the question about the numerous finishes on the Halifax Rifles badges. Rifles units wear darkened badges as part of the rifles' traditions. The Halifax Rifles were mobilized as an infantry battalion on Jan 1, 1941. On Jan 26, 1942, they were converted to an armoured regiment. Armoured regiments did not wear darkened badges.
Another reason, rifle regiment other ranks wear darkened badges, while the officer's wear white metal or silver badges. This may be another explanation for the variety of finishes.
Mix the two explanations together and we have umpteen varieties of Halifax Rifles badges?
