Yes it is exactly that , But is it an addaptation similar to the cyclist badge from previous thread, I have seen similar ones in an old cllection.

This is the official arm badge of the VTC Ambulance Sections. They weren't allowed by the Hague Convention to wear the Red Cross armband and so had to wear a cloth badge of their own design. I have in my notes at home the colours making up the badge the centre of which is a white "A" on a red background. No other badge was designed or worn. On War Office recognition in 1916 as the Volunteer Force, they were allowed to wear the Red Cross as worn by the RAMC |

Thankyou Graham, The other explanation may be that its something to do with a VAD unit, The alterations look to have been done a long time,

Thankyou Dave , Are you still collecting Guards? Do you remember Brian Arbery in Walden ? He had two variations of this in his collection, Kev

Hi Kevin, yes I still collect all things Guards related, I'm presently trying to persuade my wife to buy me a Welsh Guards valise badge for Christmas.
I,m not sure if I remember Brian though, is he the chap who sells badges where P.G.Wing used to be? As well as being interested in your badge because of its nursing and VTC connections, I think it is just a nice Quirkey thing. Its always good to find the unusual, I like the research which follows. Have you joined the NRIG yet!!!!!???? Happy hunting Dave |
