Default SA Irish cast badge variant

Have had this cast brass badge for some time and wondered if anybody has any info on it. It is in the shape of the Royal Irish Rifles but has the SA Irish motto. I have made an assumption that it was WW2 made in Egypt.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards

Dudley

Hi Dudley,
I have never came across the RUR badge with the "Faugh A Ballagh" scroll before.
I have a cast SA Irish badge which is more like the London Irish badge with
the "Faugh A Ballagh" scroll.
I believe it dates from WW2.

Default SAIR

The RUR type badge is commonly thought to have been worn by the SAIR in WWII. But there is no photographic evidence to support this. They do turn up quite often, could it be a badge worn by the Irish Company of Prince Alfred's Guard during WWII ? I've only ever seen one photo of this company, and they were not wearing this badge, but perhaps the might have worn it at some time.
P.S. The photo shows the all brass helmet plate being worn on a caubeen.

Default sa irish badge

hi dudley, the cast brass badge you show in the photo is more commonly known as the SIDI REZEGH badge, named after the battle in 1941 where the battalion took a terrible beating suffering very heavy casualties. these badges were made locally in theatre, hence the very rough appearance, however i cannot say how short a period this badge was in use for. regards john

Default South African Irish Regiment RUR Type Badge.

Posted this picture in another tread in the British section. But perhaps better here. Shows the RUR type badge worn by three members of the SAIR. Taken in October 1941 before Sidi Rezegh. Also worn is a piper's cap badge. And the KC harp badge with no scroll.
