Pontius Pilate as Procurator of Judea. Bronze Prutah Caeseria mint 29/30 AD. With desert patina, weight 2.56 gms max diameter 15.8 mm. Obverse TIBEPIOY KAICPOC around a Litus (Augers wand). Pilates portrayal of a Roman priestly impliment designed to antagonise the Jews. Reverse LIZ within a wreath. Regnal year code 16 or 17 equates to 29/30 AD. Ref Hendin 1342a. |
