Small Cone Shaped Buttons.
Hi All,
I've been metal detecting a farm on an old wagon road in South Africa (Old Victoria County in Natal Colony) and I often find these cone-shaped buttons where I find concentrations of Victorian buttons from a variety of regiments. I was wondering if they could form part of a uniform or something from that time period. They average about 12mm in diameter, I say average as some vary slightly from this. Any help would be appreciated. |

A shot in the dark - boot or gaiter buttons?
Possibly a bit large for that. |

I think that they are waistcoat buttons.

Also, gaiter & boot buttons were often globular for ease of doing and undoing. Having worn gaiters with flat buttons and with round [half-globes], I can tell you that this is a very clever notion! |
