R N Motor Boat Reserve
I picked up this badge the other day and while I think it looks suitably old and original I should appreciate some opinions as to whether it is ok or a known fake.

RNMBR
I think this is a faked badge, I am told the originals were bullion.

Hi,
Here is mine for comparison, 38mm high. Correct me if I am wrong, I think the initials stand for Royal Naval Mobile Base Reserve. See also my album: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ictureid=13221 Cheers, Tinto |

I have an example as well but likely a repro,
The initials are definitely Royal Naval Motor Boat Reserve. Bryan |

Mike (and Tinto)
This is a badge of the Royal Naval Motor Boat Reserve (formed 1914 and short lived before being fully incorporated into the RNVR I believe). The badge is heavily faked but the usual fake is blackened, has a voided crown and is stamped JR Gaunt . London. I have attached a pic of the front and back of the badge I refer to. I have also attached pics of the front and back of the badge, similar to yours, which I also have. Mine is very well made, is not blackened (but that's not to say it hasn't been in the past), has an unvoided crown and a nice strong slider. I bought this off a dealer who has what I believe is a good reputation for selling genuine badges and I like the feel of the badge. I have also attached a picture of the bullion badge that Sonof refers to. The Royal Naval museum has versions of the gilding metal badge and bullion badge in their reserve collection but I didn't see a blackened version. Paddy |

Hi Bryan and Paddy,
Thanks for verifying correct RNMBR title. Obviously, I had been misinformed. Thanks also for the pictures. Tinto |

Thanks for all the interest and the responses and pics.
The blackened brass version doesnt look too good, but I think that the one I have is rather like Paddy's example and will go down as " it feels good and may well be ok " |
