What have I acquired ???
Bought the attached from our favourite on line auction site, the Lewis`s label appears to be original to the badge but perhaps not ?
The letters "Rd" are a mystery, any thoughts, suggestions or positive identification would be most welcome. May well not be military but has a military flavour to it. Many thanks in advance. P.B.

Peter,
Can't help with the badge identification but pre 1969 memories of Lewis's department store in Liverpool came flooding back. Particularly the Scouse expression "standing there like one of Lewis's" - a reference to the naked male statue over the main doors! Tim

Thanks everyone for the replies, brought back memories of the song titled In my Liverpool Home, " we speak with an accent exceedingly rare, meet under a statue exceedingly bare............."

Does Rd have anything to do with registered design or patent related, just a thought.

On the other hand, 22896 might be Lewis's stock number. |

Peter,
A bit of a long shot this. I'm wondering if this badge was used to adorn perhaps the livery of hotel staff or similar. I do know that Lewis's supplied corporate clothing for a number of organisations. In fact I have gilt tunic buttons (large and small) for the Liverpool Royal Infirmary. On the back they are marked "Lewis's Liverpool". So I suspect that they supplied uniforms for the Royal Infirmary staff. Now, for readers who are not familiar with the City, I should explain that Lewis's did not manufacture buttons or badges. They were a very large department store. So, obviously the buttons I have were made by a sub-contractor. Dave. |

Thanks to Simon and Dave,
I have sent photos to my contact at Liverpool Museum to see what they might be able to come up with, will post any information they might come back with. P.

It could be a British Petroleum Tankers badge. One paw is out of sync.

The 'out of sync paw' heraldically makes it absolutely a different badge.
