Default Mixed lot, some good, some doubtful.

I am lucky enough to have a friend who sends me photographs of recenctly acquired cap badges to see if I want to buy any of them. I generally select a few that look interesting and they are sent through the post for closer inspection.

This lot arrived this morning and I am confident about two or three of them and doubtful of several others. I spent several hours looking up threads regarding most of the badges before they arrived and have now managed to confuse my self about several others.

I would appreciate your thoughts.

Let me start with the Buckinghamshire Battalion. It has a Frederick Narborough B'ham slider and I am confident that it is a good one. There is a small dent in the upper section of the Maltese cross on the left side, but I think that this is just a knock.

The Brecknockshire battalion also looks good to me but I may be wrong.

Both look OK to me. The FN Bham commands a higher price than unmarked ones.

Bottom left is the current issue Queen’s Royal Hussars and looks fine. There are several makers marks and of course more recently blank sliders.

The 8th Bn P.W.O West Yorkshire Regt. Leeds Rifles has induced a feeling of acute paranoia having read several dozen threads and knowing that it has been faked to death.

It is blackened brass but I don't like the shape of the slider. It has a void beneath the crown but it does have a strengthener. It does have a missing full stop after the letter O but I am unsure if this is a good or a bad sign.

It is either original or the fakers are putting every thing in the pot.

The W.M. Royal Bucks Hussars looks to be good but I am unsure if the Firmin London mark should be on the slider.

The Cameron (Liverpool Scottish) badge may not be original as the lugs are quite short.

The Herefordshire Light Infantry looks to be O.K. but it is not one that I am familiar with.

Many thanks for that. The badge has a Firmin. London maker's mark.

The Royal Guernsey Light Infantry badge is I believe, a copy due to the J.R.Gaunt.London maker's mark which, incidently, is 15mm long.

I am unsure about The Royal Gloucestershire Hussars badge. Should it have a Wm. Dowler. (B'ham) maker's mark?

The Royal Guernsey Light Infantry badge I would say should be a more dainty badge with next to nothing in the way of a boarder to the scroll. I would not go for it. Regards, Paul.

Superb, I love it when the house clearance boys come up with provenance.
