Cloth Embroidered Insignia I like Royal Corps of Signals
Hi Team
I have added to my collection "Embroidered insignia I like", which really can encompass any embroidered insignia,RN, RAF, Auxilary, blazer patches etc.. These are literally outside my knowledge in a lot of cases. So with that said I will be listing some embroidered insignia that I would like to know more information so I can document and database them. This is a large work of art , Hand Embroidered/crochet(?). The Royal Corps of Signals dates from 1946-1953 with the Tudor crown. Mercury is padded and the dimensions are:230mm W x 250mm H x 5-8mm thick. Such a beautiful detailed piece. All opinions, annectdotes welcomed cheers Phill |

Phil.
Believe this is what is generally known as a Sweetheart Comforter type tapestry or embroidery, made by a wife or loved one and sometimes framed and hung on the wall as a reminder of their relative serving in a particular Regiment. Have one of a similar size to The KRRC made by the Wife's Grandmother. Simon. |

Thanks Simon
Much appreciated. Apparently the crown was offically added c 1946 so I was trying to figure out, a then new official Tudor crown hand embroidered "tapestry" what would it had been used for. It does make sense as a fitting tribute to a loved ones service. Maybe the same for the South Wales Borderers "tapestry." That would of taken some time to make. cheers Phill |

Simons' "Sweetheart comforter" and your "hospital convalescence" are apt names for this type of embroidery. Are these common or rare and would they tend to be made WWI/WWII era? cheers Phill |

The design of the Royal Signals cap badge with King’s Crown and oval surround was approved by King George the Vth on 23 March 1921. In 1946 the design changed to two parts with the King’s Crown above the figure of Mercury without the oval surround.
Your embroidered badge therefore dates between 1921 and 1946 although could have been made after 1946. Tim
