Default The Royal Anglian Regiment

These little snippets are taken from a new recruits pamphlet given out in 1966 to a recruit who did sign up and join.

The Cap Badge, Page 7

" worn by all regular soldiers, but not Territorial Army"

"Except for the wording on the scroll this is the same as that of the East Anglian Brigade originally designed in 1958,although the badge worn by other ranks was reduced to its present size. The cap badge worn by officers in The East Anglian Brigade was reduced to its present size in 1961.
This reduction in size was found necessary because it was frequently confused with the badge of other corps "

Talking The Royal Anglian Regiment

With the main feature a star I am not surprised it was confused with other units badges, after all there are not too many badges that incorporate the star in it's design.

Interesting about the size reduction.

In a similar vein the Royal Hampshire Officers in the 1980s wore the bronzed cap badge previously worn on khaki caps on their berets. I was told that his was because the embroidered badge on a blue beret was often mistaken for the RCT officer's beret badges. The officers of the Royal Hampshires did not wear the tiger badge but the star derived from the 37th North Hampshire regt badge.
