Interesting, I didn't realise that clutch pin fittings were in use on British army insignia as early as 1969 (I first noticed them in the mid - late 1970's).

I don't know, I don't know when the fittings came in, just I'd not seen them in use until the 70's.
Could the badge still have been in use for some purpose post the 1969 SWB and The Welch Regiment amalgamation, in RRW, The Royal Welsh?

Taking a closer look it is perhaps an officers collar badge (not anodised). I have seen LOYALs officers collar badges with clutch pin fittings and from the 1960s. At that time officers purchased their uniforms and badges from various military tailors and there were differences in manufacture.

I'd agree that the badge looks more like a silvered metal than an anodised aluminium one.

When anodised aluminium badges first came in,the powers that be were going to use clutch pins rather than lugs.
As we have already discussed a/a wasnt loved and the pins are rather fragile. They will have had queues outside the QMs asking for replacements . The change to lugs would have been rather quick. I have paperwork suggesting that the buttons ended up ruined through the use of brasso on them and that brass buttons should be reinstated.
