Default Lincolnshire Regiment - Shako & Glengarry

I recently acquired the following badges from an auction house, selling a collection of Lincolnshire Regiment badges. Having received them I am not sure about their authenticity. Perhaps members on here can confirm if they are genuine or copies.

1) 2nd Vol. Battn Lincolnshire Regiment. Although this example has nice dark toned lugs E-W, it does not match the example in mooke07 excellent album on Lincolnshire badges, i.e only 2 lugs instead of 3 and a solid crown opposed to a voided crown.
2) An officer quality Glengarry badge. Sphinx over X. I cannot find records that this badge ever existed. An elaborate fake?
3) 10th Foot 1869 NCO's shako plate. Appears to be copper lugs for a badge over 150 years old (one loose...!). A fake leatherette backing. I'm sure vinyl is a 20th century invention
4) 10th North Lincoln Regt x 2. Both examples appear in mooke07 album again. Identified as possible fake.
5) 10th officer Helmet/Shako plate. Gilt with white metal sphinx. The sphinx appears to the modern one used on fake Lincolnshire Regt cap badges.

Your comments, positive or negative will be used as evidence in my complaint to the auction house concerned.

Thanks
Andy

Andy,

2VB is good.

All the others have been copied over the years and I too am suspicious of them, but cant say for sure.

Cool Lincolnshire badges

I agree, difficult to say if you don't have the badges in your hand, the 2nd VB looks good to me as well.

Hi Andy,

The 2VB is fine and have attached a pic of some additional Lincs badges I have yet to add to the album which includes the Officers pattern 2VB with a non-voided Crown. The others are all copies I am sorry and should be sent back. I would always be happy to comment prior to purchase without fear of bidding myself on any item, I don’t do that sort of thing, just PM me, cheers Dean.

I would agree with the sentiments expressed by everyone else.

First badge I really like and is undoubtedly genuine. Badges 3 and 4 are certainly fakes going by the loops and reverse details. Badges 2 and 5 I’m also suspicious of and would send back. Hope that helps. Very sadly a forum member who may have been able to help with information on badges 2 and 5 recently passed away.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. Dean, thanks again for the kind offer, I will be in touch should I come across any more Lincolnshire badges.

Kind Regards,
Andy

No problems Andy. The quality of the strike especially to the rear, the loops and attaching braze, the style and finish of the Sphinx on the Officer’s glengarry and the finish and strike of its surround are all guides. Look through some Bosley’/DNW catalogues and see some genuine ones with the quality of strike, loops, general aged appearance but still not easy until they look and feel right in your hand. I watch King’s Colonials Badges go for big $ on e shop and think poor buyer seeing others bidding getting spurred on even bad copies. Hence my website plus open invitation to contact ahead of bidding on these plus my family regiments where I am by no means an expert but do have some experience, cheers Dean.

Sure - no. Suspicious of the colour of the back of the badge, the residual polish and colour of the braze (possibly re-attaches loops?) - yes.

I am not sure about the last badge. It may be genuine. I couldn't be sure without actually handling the badge. It has the correct brass lugs rather than the copper ones that you get on many of the copies. The 10th foot glengarry badge is definitely a fake. The tags that support the "10" are in the wrong place. The tag between the 1 and the 0 should be halfway down the 1 not near the top.
