Nice to see that, their Drill Hall still stands (albeit flats today) at the junction of Yorkhill St and Gilbert St - one of the entrances bears a carved stone “6th Btn. H.L.I.”.

Thanks for showing that Graham, I had no idea of its existence.
The 9th Bn I understand were on Greendykes St next to Glasgow Green and the People's Palace. Here is a bit from the 9th's history on mobilization. 'At Greendyke Street accommodation was both limited and inconvenient, so arrangements were made to billet two companies in the People’s Palace on Glasgow Green where the men sleet in comparative comfort under the palm trees. In addition, those who lived within easy distance of the drill hall were allowed to sleep at home. The officers, some of whom had been living in St. Enoch’s Station Hotel during the week-end slept in the small and badly ventilated company orderly-room, but a few went home or remained at the hotel as headquarters was over-crowded'. |
