Red Lanyard.
Labelled as a lanyard of the "old 9 DLI" - it's similar to the lanyard of The Yorkshire Regiment.
I could'nt identify it as a DLI item but bought it anyway some weeks ago - was such a lanyard worn by 9 DLI, or have I got myself a Yorkshire Regiment one? |

Leigh,
I have found: 6 DLI (TA)- Lanyard Red - worn on left shoulder by officers and on the right shoulder (on Battle Dress) by WOs and serjeants. War Office letter 54/Inf/8612 (Ord17) dated 30 April 1954 in 1948 9 DLI was converted as 17th Battalion Parachute Regiment. DLI regular battalion WOs and Sjts were authorised a Dark Green Cord lanyard on 22 June 1950. Tim

Thank you for that info, so a possibility it's a DLI item albeit 6th Bn not 9th Bn.
I have an idea that 1 Para wore a red single cord lanyard at some time, I've read that somewhere, cant remember where. |

17 Para eventually becomes part of 4 Para. I'm not sure what colour lanyard they wore.

6 DLI wore blackened badges. The 1 PARA lanyard is described in some official documentation as ‘red’ but is actually maroon and now shares the same NSN and description with the RAMC lanyard.
17 PARA eventually carried forward into 4 PARA(V) etc. Tim

6 DLI wore a red badge backing to their black badge as I recall?
4 Para wore a black lanyard, I should've known 1 Para was maroon not red. |
