As highlighted by GGM the crown certainly looks to be a later addition, possibly a replacement for a QVC?

Hi Andy,
the Royal Durban Rifles had a very similar badge worn 1873 - 1899 with QVC. In 1895 it became the Durban Light Infantry. The size is also similar. I don't have a copy myself but if you go to this link, Brian Conyngham did post his copy. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=21020 Problem; it has lugs not screw posts but in recent years a lot of SA badges had screw posts. Although your badge doesn't look like the fitting was ever altered. You could ask Dave, maybe he repaired it Iain
