15th London OSD
I recently acquired these two badges together. The cap I am pretty sure being the 15th London. But the collar has me somewhat baffled as I have never seen that design of scroll before. Anyone got any ideas?

Jim,
The scroll design of your smaller badge is in keeping with collars to the 15th. The example below is an O/R's collar (Churchill 1961) and has e/w lugs: 15th Collar.jpg Regards, Peter. |

Also worn by the Denbighshire Hussars in service dress, photos being worn circa 1915 - I have two Officers wearing them (most probably worn earlier than that..... from 1906 or thereabouts).
Denbighshire Hussars Bronze collar badge * Pictured below ....was worn by Capt. J B Miller, DHY, WW1. ** Also worn by Capt W V T Rooper (DHY) Royal Flying Corps [Have photo, circa 1915] *** Also worn by Captain R A Davidson, MC, DHY [Have photo, circa 1915]

Look at the design of the 15th London white metal.... and then look at the DHY design (Jims matches the DHY)..... they are different. The 15th London should have "D" loops E/W..... the DHY will have short "O" loops N/S.
The Cap badge is KK1433..... DHY.... the "DENBIGHSHIRE HUSSARS" scroll, for the Officers, was a later addition some time after the Boer War period. DHY Officers badges post 1906 -ish (KK1433 -with DH scroll) Jim..... could you clean the badges please (as described in the PM)..... the real colour will show up.

Griff personally I wouldn't advocate the cleaning of either of the badges in Post #1. They are perfectly fine as they are , why loose decades of character
Just my opinion Tony.

Loose the decades of filth and see the real thing.... many badges ...I am sure are mistaken for being OSD or black painted etc...... with a bit of a soft clean... the real colour comes through and the truth is revealed. For example:- Is the motto below a brass motto?

Peter,Griff, Tony.
Many thanks for your replies. I am still not 100% sure now if it is DHY or the 15th London! I will not be cleaning the badges Griff...but if you look at the photo of the reverse there has been some rubbing that shows the original chocolate colour finish. Jim |

I have lightly cleaned the badge with soap and water...It does look to retain original blacking, and is it my eyes or is there a faint makers mark on the LH scroll from the rear.

Jim
It does not look any cleaner to me..... that "original" blob of white paint and the grime in the back of the badge etc...... there is more to go
