Hi Didier
Why do you say RASC, these knives were usually issued to Royal Naval personnel? Were they also given to RASC members?
Cheers,
Alex

Can't be a zero - wrong font size. Looks like an '8' to me.

Hello Gentlemen
I say RASC because of the number
http://www.northeastmedals.co.uk/mm/...ce_numbers.htm
and I think that the "jackknife" was used by all the Army, no ?
cordially

Yes it was. My step-father had one with his number on and he was in the RA.
Whether it was a standard issue or nmot I don't know...

Knives, Clasp. were a general issue item although this particular pattern was superseded by a cheaper version. I had an old mate who was ex RAOC (E)/REME during WW2 who had one of this pattern.

Default jack knife

your type of knife with horn scales were issued from 1913--1938 and were then fazed out and the smaller knives with bexoid scales were introduced. The Royal Navy had a completly different knife with aluminum type scales and no tin opener. John.

John,
Sorry to hijack this thread but can you telll me anything about the knife in the attached picture which is made by William Rogers. It seems to have a screwdriver at one end. The blade has the number 21306 on it and it has 489 and the WD arrow on the side.

Thanks

Peter

Didier,

If the number is 184775 and we are talking WW1 it may have belonged to Gunner Herbert Rich RGA, later Labour Corps.

Regards,

Mike D.

The second knife is defo RN...the first one looks like a WW1 that I had...larger than the WW2 with different tin opener....mine was issued at RAC centre Catterick on Embarkation leave with cord lanyard.
Had it for years but left it out in the rain and Mother put it in the oven to dry and side plates melted!
